Fire alarm device is a basic component needed according to laws in many countries to avoid loss of human lives. Once the first alarm is activated, every occupant should find their way to leave the building as soon as possible and mostly run to the closest exit by eye sight. It sometimes causes a bottles neck problem, with results as inefficient evacuation, It is believed that a formal evacuation plan would be beneficial. This paper applies a mathematical technique for determining a best/optimal solution by creating an optimization model for a fire evacuation plan. The model is applied to a case study of Perry High school in Ohio, USA. It is hoped that optimization model can be further applied to benefit other communities in the future.
